Seeds from ugni molinae, Chilean Guava, or Strawberry Myrtle. Fruit ripens with a very heavy fragrance of strawberry. One of this plants more popular uses is as a Sunny Garden Hedge. Ugni molinae is frost tender and in flower from May to July. The seeds then ripen from August to October. Chilean Guava is self fertile and the hermaphrodite flowers are pollinated by Bees. Ugni molinae is an evergreen Shrub growing 6 to 8 feet tall, at a medium rate. Chilean Guava cannot grow in the shade and it prefers dry well drained soil. Ugni molinae can tolerate drought and strong winds but not extremely exposed conditions.
