A large long lip bloom with a repulsed lower lip, far protruding stamens and stamp, dark calyx, blooming, large sticky aromatic dark green leaves with purple underside, fast growing shrub-like strong plant, not too dry well-drained soil, frost-free hibernate, insect plant. Salvia Macrophylla, ‘Purple Leaf’, grows in a tidy, upright fashion, producing two-inch-long cobalt blue flowers without pause from summer through early fall. It is native to Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. Zones 9 to 11.
