Seeds from this phormium nigrum a very hard to find member of the Phormium purpurea family or better know as New Zealand Flax. The purpureum group is one of the best to grow producing elegant long leaves of deep purplish bronze. Phormium can be damaged by cold winds and severe frosts in some areas of the country and will benefit from some protection. Growing only 2 feet and only hardy in zones 8 to 11, this makes a wonderful accent in any garden. Needs only an occasional watering after established.
