Iris chrysographes Black Gold 5 seeds

Seeds from this Iris chrysographes Black Gold. The flowers are not oil-colored, but its name alludes to the Greek, chrysographes ‘gold writing’. Tall sprays of darkest blue to almost black velvety flowers are delicately marked with golden lines. Also known as the Black Iris, this is a close cousin to the Siberian Iris, forming an upright clump of grassy green leaves. This is an unusual species, not often encountered in gardens, but an excellent choice for the moist sunny border, or at the waterside. Great for cutting. Clumps may be easily divided in early fall. Seldom troubled by the Iris Borer or other insects and diseases. Old foliage should be cut back to the ground in late fall or early spring. CAUTION: Harmful if eaten. Zones 4 – 9.
