Quart plant that makes a good hedge, border plant or specimen.Small glossy evergreen foliage with white fragrant flowers from spring to frost. Orange-red hips are produced in the fall but you need cross pollination with another gardenia to produce the hips. Seed collected from Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Plant in full sun to part shade in well drained soil. Gardenias perform best in a fertile, well-drained, humus rich, acidic soil with average moisture. They seem to do best in hot southern regions where they get some midday or afternoon shade but need good light for the best flower production. Height 5 to 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide. Hardy in zones 8-12.
