Seeds from Fuchsia boliviana Alba fuchsias grow in the cloud forests of Central and South America, New Zealand, the West Indies and Tahiti. They range from ground creeping species to shrubs, vines and small trees, and are of a woody nature. Excellent jam can be made from the berries of some varieties. Alba is a medium evergreen shrub, growing to 6 to 12 ft tall. It has large, hairy mid green leaves and red petioles. The Alba has large drooping coryms up to 8 inches long borne in late summer and autumn of scarlet red flowers with the individual flowers 2 to 3 inches long. After flowering it bears small red purple, edible fruit 4 to 10 inches long. Fuchsia boliviana is widely grown in shade or part shade in cooler, subtropical climates. Plants require protection from direct sun and high temperatures. Zones 9 to 11
