Seeds from this mountain wildflower, Erythronium purpurascens, produces two narrow green leaves up to 8 inches in length. The straight stalks reach a maximum of 8 inches tall and each has one to six flowers. The flower has white tepals with yellow bases which turn purple as the blossom fades. Each tepal is only 3/4 inch long and curls back. The stamens and their large anthers and the style are yellow. The flowers bloom as the last snow is melting, which might not be until summer at high elevations. USDA Hardiness Zones 3 to 9.
