Dodecatheon dentatum white Shooting Star or Dwarf Shooting Star. A shade loving perennial herb with single, leafless flower stems, growing from very short erect root stocks with no bulblets. This native zone 5 to 8 perennial wildflower consists of leaf blades oval to egg shaped or sometimes heart shaped, toothed or wavy edged, on slender stalks as long as or longer than the blades 6 to 16 inches tall. The white starshaped flowers hang downward are about a quarter inch long with 1 to 2 purple dots at base between April and August. They need plenty of moisture in spring, but can be quite dry during their summer dormancy.
