Pint plant of Allamanda blanchetii, violacea Chocolate Cherries. The glossy point burgundy-brown buds open into flowers with 5 slightly overlapped petals of an special tint of pink cherry ice cream. Their narrow, funnel-shaped bases are a bit darker. In cool weather, the petals change their color for more saturate. The genus Allamanda is named after Jean Allamand, an 18th century Dutch naturalist who is a specialist in the flora of Brazil. The Allamanda is one of the group of semi-climbing, upright growing plants, becoming more and more popular lately. They can also become an evergreen shrub-like plant with pruning. This plant grows upright but requires some support for the branches, and flowers best under full sun and well-drained soil. Can be trained as a standard. Good in Moist Soils, Well-Drained Soils, Saline Soils / Salt Spray, Fertile Loamy Soils, Polluted Air. Zones 8 to 11.
